M. Night Shyamalan rounds out the cast for his latest thriller

M. Night Shyamalan, thriller

For a number of years, M. Night Shyamalan was the king of thrillers, but the writer/director found his career hitting the wall after back-to-back releases of several critically-panned films. Shyamalan then staged his own comeback with several low-budget features which became quite successful at the box-office, including THE VISIT, SPLIT, and GLASS, and he's now busy gathering up the cast for his next project.

According to Variety, the cast for M. Night Shyamalan's next movie will include Eliza Scanlen (Sharp Objects), Thomasin McKenzie (JOJO RABBIT), Alex Wolff (JUMANJI: THE NEXT LEVEL), Aaron Pierre (Krypton), and Vicky Krieps (PHANTOM THREAD), as all are now in negotiations for the project. Naturally, plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film will be written, produced, and directed by M. Night Shyamalan for Universal Pictures. The studio actually has two Shyamalan projects on the books, which were slated to hit theaters on February 26, 2021 and February 17, 2023, respectively, but the COVID-19 shut-down has obviously forced Universal to push the 2021 date into limbo.

While THE SIXTH SENSE, UNBREAKABLE, and SIGNS remain favourites of mine, I haven't exactly been blown away by all of M. Night Shyamalan's later efforts; that said, I'm always down for a little Shyamalan strangeness. Speaking of strangeness, you might just want to check out Sevant, Shyamalan's half-hour psychological thriller on Apple TV+ that follows a Philadelphia couple in mourning after an unspeakable tragedy creates a rift in their marriage and opens the door for a mysterious force to enter their home. Apple ordered a second season before the first had even debuted, but production on the new season was shut down due to the COVID-19.
