Alright, to be fair M. Night Shyamalan has been taking about a sequel to UNBREAKABLE for a while now. Actually it was nearly two years ago that we last heard the filmmaker talk about an UNBREAKABLE 2. So is this thing going to happen or not? According to M. Night it is still very much a possibility.
The guys over at MTV recently caught up with Shyamalan to talk about his latest flick THE LAST AIRBENDER, which is scoring some horrible reviews. Who wants to talk about THE LAST AIRBENDER when you can talk about UNBREAKABLE 2 though? So that’s exactly what MTV did! They quickly changed the subject to the long-discussed sequel and here’s what Shyamalan had to say:
“I just have to think of the right story. If I think of the right story — and by that I mean something that resonates with me right now, you know, at my age and where I am and what movie I’ve come off of — if I can do that, then I’ll get really excited and I’ll write a draft and I’ll go beg Disney for us to be able to make it.”
Considering the director has been on the decline for a while now it’s hard to imagine a studio backing him with a sequel to UNBREAKABLE… then again it’s a project people want to see so who really knows. Fact is this thing stands exactly where it did two years ago so there’s no telling when, or if, things will ever get rolling with it.
