M. Night Shyamalan is taking audiences behind the scenes in a new way. The The Sixth Sense and Trap filmmaker has launched his own YouTube channel, using his first video to explain why he wants to connect with fans on a more personal level.
In the introductory video, which you can watch in the embed above, Shyamalan describes the channel as an opportunity to “reflect and get to know each other” while admitting that the whole experience makes him nervous.

Shyamalan says he wants the channel to embrace the “messiness” of the creative process and give himself permission to be imperfect.
“It’s like 30 years making movies and I want to undo it a little bit, you know, undo whatever stigmas are in my head or in anybody’s head.”
The filmmaker also gives viewers a glimpse of his personal surroundings, including a bench outside his office where he goes to think and calm down. He points out a tree planted in memory of his father, who passed away earlier this year.
“I don’t know how this is going to be. I don’t know what I’m going to show you and what you’re going to show me, but the joy of it is stepping into the unknown. And so we’ll do that together.”
That idea of stepping into the unknown seems appropriate for a filmmaker whose career has been built around mystery, suspense, and unexpected twists. Now, Shyamalan is inviting audiences to see what happens when he applies that same willingness to experiment to his own life and creative process.
The new YouTube channel arrives as Shyamalan prepares to release his next feature, Remain, a supernatural romantic thriller created in collaboration with bestselling author Nicholas Sparks. Shyamalan and Sparks developed the original story together, with each creator then telling it through a different medium. Sparks wrote the novel, while Shyamalan directed the movie from his own screenplay.
The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Tate Donovan, a New York architect who travels to Cape Cod while attempting to rebuild his life. There, he meets Wren, a mysterious young woman who challenges his understanding of the world around him.
The cast also includes Phoebe Dynevor, Julie Hagerty, Jay O. Sanders, Tracy Ifeachor, Hannah James, Caleb Ruminer, Kieran Mulcare, Maria Dizzia, and Ashley Walters.
Remain is scheduled to hit theaters on February 5, 2027. Shyamalan previously described the movie as the highest-testing film of his career.
“Honestly, my hope is that when you experience Remain, you feel both sides of it at once, full of love and that quiet, lingering unease that doesn’t let you go.”
For now, however, Shyamalan appears to be focused on something less scripted. His new YouTube channel will give fans a chance to follow along as the filmmaker experiments with a new form of storytelling and communication.
