MacGruber TV series in development for NBC’s streaming service

In just a few months, MACGRUBER will be celebrating its tenth anniversary. Makes one feel old, don't it? Over the course of the past decade, there have been numerous discussions regarding a sequel to the cult classic comedy, but as the film couldn't even break $10 million worldwide, the chances of a sequel were obviously slim, hinging entirely on the passion of its fans and Will Forte.

Close to a year ago, Will Forte teased that the MACGRUBER sequel may actually take the form of a TV series, and it seems to be official as NBC has announced a slate of new projects destined for Peacock, their upcoming streaming service, one of which is a MacGruber TV series. Get ready to rip some throats! Here's the official logline:

After rotting in prison for over a decade, America’s ultimate hero and uber patriot MacGruber is finally released. His mission: to take down a mysterious villain from his past — Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth. With the entire world in the crosshairs, MacGruber (Will Forte), Vicki and Piper must race against time to defeat the forces of evil. Only to find that evil … may be lurking within.

I'm absolutely down for this. Will Forte will obviously be reprising his role of MacGruber, in addition to serving as writer and executive producer, and MACGRUBER director/co-writer Jorma Taccone will also return to write, direct, and executive produce the TV series. As far as Kristen Wiig and Ryan Phillippe reprising their roles of Vicki and Piper goes, there's no official word yet, but I sure do hope they return.
