Mad Max 4 to be in 3D – and partially animated?!

It should be absolutely no surprise that George Miller is apparently planning to film MAD MAX: FURY ROAD in 3D. After all, if you’re not making your movie in 3D nowadays, you’re a f*cking sucker. The reality of the moment is, Hollywood is completely under the spell of AVATAR’s mammoth box office haul; its success not only proves that James Cameron is the King of all of our worlds, but that 3D is a format worth banking on.

So it goes, the French site Toutlecine is reporting that Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and a bundle of rip-roaring motor vehicles will be jumping off the screen and into our brains a few years from now. Not only that, but from what Slashfilm can gather, that same site is also claiming that the flick will be a mix of animation and live-action. What that means exactly, who knows. By “animation” they could simply mean “lots of visual effects”, or perhaps some motion-capture work… They could also mean straight-up animation, and that would be pretty bizarre, wouldn’t you say?

Also interesting, the article seems to reveal that Charlize Theron will be playing either a female pilot or a “first officer”, depending on which translation you’re using. (Babelfish informed me: Fury Road is with two tires to position its fuselage on the starting line. Made containing live and animation this fourth shutter will make the good share with Tom Hardy in the role titrates, whereas Charlize Théron is used to him as female copilot.. That about says it all.)
