Magnet Filmes picks up Gareth Edwards’ SXSW hit Monsters

Last time we told you about Gareth Edwards’ MONSTERS, it was just about to premiere at the SXSW film festival. Well, that screening must have gone well, because according to Deadline.com, Magnet Releasing picked up the U.S. distribution rights to the film, in a deal made hours after the film debuted at a midnight screening at SXSW. That’s some positive buzz right there!

Here’s the synopsis for MONSTERS, which seems like a potential blast: Six years ago NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after new life forms began to appear there and half of Mexico was quarantined as an “Infected Zone.”

Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain “the creatures”… The story begins when a US journalist agrees to escort a shaken American tourist through the infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the US border.

Magnet acquired distribution rights in Canada and Mexico as well, although there’s no telling when this monster will be unleashed.
