Not that I can personally attest, but I’ve heard Bobcat Goldthwait has become quite the indie filmmaker. His last feature, WORLD’S GREATEST DAD, won almost unanimous praise from fans and critics alike. With that in mind, we can expect a good deal from the man’s follow up film, the killing-spree comedy GOD BLESS AMERICA. And with today’s news, we might be able to see this sucker sooner rather than later…
Deadline is reporting that Magnolia Pictures has just secured worldwide rights to GOD BLESS AMERICA, in a deal made fresh out of Toronto. Word is the film will hit Ultra VOD in 2012, which means it’ll premiere on demand, then tour 25 select cities to play theatrically.
Here’s how Goldthwait described the film back in March:
“There’s this middle aged guy and he’s at home watching a show like My Super Sweet 16.” Like any sane person forced to watch this televised horror, this middle aged guy apparently didn’t like what he saw because after watching Bobcat says that he then, “drives 400 miles and kills that girl.”
Eventually people find out, and don’t really seem to mind. Goldthwait says, “and then a classmate asks him ‘did you kill Chloe?’ and he doesn’t say anything and she goes ‘awesome’. So then they get in this stolen Camaro and drive around and kill people.”
Sounds pretty damn dope to me. And with Joel Murray playing the shooter, I cannot wait to see the reunion of he and Bobcat from ONE CRAZY SUMMER (the DVD of which has one of the all time funniest commentaries by the way).
Bobcat Goldthwait making satirical-slasher flicks. Who knew?
