Male actors lining up to join adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s sci-fi novel The Host

Our last update on the adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s sci-fi novel THE HOST came back in June, when we learned that Open Road had snatched the rights to this one and was planning a March 29, 2013 release date. Well over a year away? Damn.

Well that should come as no surprise really as THE HOST seems to be a hot ticket around Hollywood. Proof of that is the impressive list of young male actors lined up to have a go at the two male leads in THE HOST.

Now the talented youngster Saoirse Ronan has already been cast in the film as ‘Melanie,’ the film’s lead. Before we get into the names vying for the male leads let me give you all the rundown on this one:

Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact and continue their lives apparently unchanged. Most of humanity has succumbed.

When Melanie, one of the few remaining “wild” humans is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading “soul” who has been given Melanie’s body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn’t expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

According to Variety Liam Hemsworth, Kit Harington, Jai Courtney and Max Irons will test for the role of ‘Jared,’ ‘Melanie’s’ boyfriend while Dane DeHaan, Thomas McDonnell, Augustus Prew and Jake Abel will test for the role of ‘Ian,’ who brutalizes ‘Wanderer’ before falling in love with her. Sounds like a lot of mumbo-jumbo to me but there you go!

Production on THE HOST is set to kick off early next year in Louisiana and New Mexico with Andrew Niccols at the helm so we can expect these roles to get filled sooner rather than later. As soon as that news comes our way you can bet we’ll pass that shite right along to all of you.
