Well there’s some more ‘graphic novel to movie’ news coming from Variety. Warner Brothers have scored the rights to Alexis Nolent’s CYCLOPS.
Here’s the synopsis from Variety: Set in the near future, the actioner concerns mercenary forces whose soldiers wear Cyclops-like cameras in their helmets and broadcast in real time to both central command and living rooms. One mercenary chosen to lead an elite squad begins to realize he isn’t fighting for freedom and justice as much as for commerce.
This sounds like it could be pretty damn cool! James Mangold is already set to direct the feature from producers Cathy Konrad and Alexandra Milchan. Milchan seems to like these graphic novel adaptations. Back in November I told you about Milchan producing THE KILLER with David Fincher directing. Mangold had the following to say on the project:
“It is an electrifying package you find in the best sci-fi: great action sequences combined with themes that are eminently foreseeable.”
Konrad adds:
“This is something that Warner Bros. wants to move very quickly on. We already have a shortlist of screenwriters and will be out to people in the next week.”
Good deal. With the right writer and the perfect cast this sounds like it can be something to check out. We’ll keep you updated.
