Maniac remake on?

With slasher flicks from the 80s being remade left and right today, it should be as no surprise that William Lustig’s MANIAC is now in talks for the remake treatment. Lustig had a chance to chat it up with Dee Snider and Debbie Rochon over at Fangoria Radio on Friday, dishing some goods on where the remake is currently at.

The MANIAC remake keeps threatening to happen. I’ve been talking [with various parties] for nine months to untangle the rights. I think it will happen.

At first I wasn’t sure if he was for or against the remake, but in the end… I think he’s all for it. He’s also all for making a sequel to another MANIAC movie of his (what’s up with this guy and MANIAC movies anyway?), MANIAC COP 4 (which we first told you about HERE).

We’re going to reinvent the series with MANIAC COP 4… We want to start fresh. We replowed the field already.

It seems to me you’re either for a fourth MANIAC COP or against it, just as you’re either for a MANIAC remake or against it. Personally, I’m on the fence with both. MANIAC COP 4 would be awesome if it doesn’t end up anything like MANIAC COP 3, and a remake of MANIAC could work (as the only real memorable part of that movie is the kick ass poster), unless they bust out with a PG-13 teenfest (which would blow chodes). In the end, I guess we’ll have to just wait and see as to whether either of them pan out or not…
