Mark Ruffalo fields Avengers: Endgame spoiler questions with a lie detector

Last night, ahead of this morning's release of a new and captivating AVENGERS: ENDGAME trailer, Bruce Banner/Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo dropped by the set of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. As a part of the night's festivities, Fallon surprised Ruffalo by introducing a bit where the Marvel star would be hooked up to a real-deal lie detector test, for the purpose of being asked spoileriffic questions about the upcoming film. Needless to say, Ruffalo got real nervous real quick, as he'd previously (and accidentally) spoiled the end of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR during an interview ahead of the film's official release.

“Oh, come on!,” Ruffalo says upon laying eyes on the lie detector. “That’s not cool! This is on TV, man,” he continued to bellyache. “We can cut this, right?,” he added while silently praying for a judicious edit of the bit. “What kind of questions are you gonna ask me?”

Funnily enough, Fallon offered Ruffalo no assurances that his questions wouldn't land the "You wouldn't like me when I'm angry" actor in Marvel's hot seat.

“I don’t wanna get fired again,” Ruffalo bellowed.

You can watch the full clip for yourself below. Oh, and don't worry, things don't get too spoilery. I would totally give you a heads up if things got dicey, but really, it's just a great bit with one very frightful Avenger.

If you're unable to watch the video at this time, permit me to give you a taste of some of the best parts.

At one point in the interview, Fallon asked Ruffalo, “Is the Hulk secretly a shape-shifting alien known as a Skrull?"

To which Ruffalo cringed while saying “What? No, Jimmy! I can’t answer that, man.” However, Ruffalo's hesitation was enough for the lie detector to tell us that he was lying.

Next, Fallon asked, “Are there any hidden clues in the latest Avengers trailer that no one has figured out yet?”

“Not that I’m aware of,” Ruffalo replied, though again, the machine said he was lying harder than Pinocchio trying to win a C.D. Bales look-a-like contest. Also, give yourself some bonus points if you caught that reference without having to Google it.

This next question was the biggest for me personally. As Ruffalo squirmed in his chair, Fallon proceeded to ask him, “Do Bruce Banner and Black Widow finally get together romantically in the new movie?”

This is the point where Ruffalo all but broke, fearful that whatever reaction he had would give away a key plot point of the film. “Jimmy, I can’t answer,” he replied, but the lie detector had already done its "pants on fire" dance, signaling to the world that perhaps we'll see Natasha and Bruce "teaming up" once more.

Lastly, Fallon asked Ruffalo, “Is everyone who disappeared from the snap from Thanos actually gone, or is there anyway they can come back?”

This proved to be too much Ruffalo, who instead of answering simply said “You know what, Jimmy. I’m outta here,” and with a snap of his fingers, poofed off-screen Thanos' wrath-style.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME stars Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Don Cheadle (War Machine), and Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon), Marvel's kitchen sink, and probably a ton of other Marvel actors hailing from the past decade+ of MCU films.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME will arrive in theaters on April 26th.
