Most fans are likely approaching TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION with cautious optimism. After being given three very similar movies from Michael Bay, the director has been promoting the latest film as a new beginning that plays by a whole different set of rules than it’s predecessors. With each new TV spot and trailer, TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION looks like more of the same, only now with Dinobots and less Shia LaBeouf.
TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION star Mark Wahlberg is, obviously, jumping to the defense of his new film and swears that it is not just a series of “money shots” made for trailers. Speaking with IGN, Wahlberg said the following:
I think a lot of times moviegoers are kind of tricked by trailers. They’ll see a cool moment and go, ‘Oh, I can’t wait to see that,’ but once they’ve seen it, they’ve seen the best bits of the movie,”
Granted, a trailer only runs for a couple of minutes and cannot show everything a movie may have in store, but we got the big Dinobot reveal, some massive action scenes, and a look at alien craft descending on a metropolitan area. What else happens in the movie we haven’t seen a bit of yet?
“I think people are definitely going to get their money’s worth, it’s well worth the wait. And I think, for the die-hard fans, they’re going to have a whole new thing to kind of look forward to in the future.”
Kudos to Wahlberg for defending his movie without giving too much away. I cannot say I entirely believe what he is saying, but I have rarely been disappointed by what he has put out. Even his most mediocre movies like SHOOTER, CONTRABAND, and 2 GUNS are still a lot of fun to watch. Plus PAIN & GAIN was an enjoyable movie and that was from Michael Bay. I hope that this turns out to be true and we finally get a TRANSFORMERS movie worth watching again and again.
TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION opens in theaters on June 27, 2014.
