Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon heads to 2023

Well, this is a bit disappointing. It has been announced that Apple TV+’s highly anticipated Killers of the Flower Moon from Martin Scorsese won’t be released in time for this Oscar season. The Western drama, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jesse Plemons, will instead be released in 2023, per Deadline.

The film had been originally slated for 2023 by Apple. Discussions between the filmmaker and the streamer over bumping up the film’s release to 2022 took place after the Will Smith slap at the Oscars earlier this year changed Apple’s release strategy for its Smith-starring slavery drama Emancipation. Despite wrapping in September 2021, the $200 million Killers of the Flower Moon won’t be ready in time for this Oscar season. It’s now rumored to be eyeing a big 2023 festival launch at Cannes, Venice, or another lavish event. Scorsese is known for his lengthy editing process with his frequent collaborator Thelma Schoonmaker so that could be why the film won’t be ready in time.

Written by Eric Roth and adapted from the best-selling novel “Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI” by David Grann, the film is based on the 1920s Oklahoma murders in the Osage Nation committed after oil was discovered on tribal land. The movie also stars Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, and Brendan Fraser. It also serves as the sixth collaboration between Scorsese and DiCaprio, as well as the 10th collaboration between Scorsese and De Niro.

Are YOU disappointed Killers of the Flower Moon won’t hit screens until 2023?
