Martin Scorsese wraps production on The Irishman

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

With it's all-star dream cast of Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel, and more, I was never overly optimistic that production on Martin Scorsese's THE IRISHMAN would actually get underway. There was the matter of the budget, as a sizable amount of it would be needed to digitally turn back the clock on the lead actors in order to de-age them by several decades, but Netflix came to the rescue with the needed dough and production began last summer in and around New York City. Just several weeks after news that the budget on THE IRISHMAN was reportedly growing larger than was intended, Martin Scorsese took to Instagram today to announce that principal photography has been completed.

Due to the extensive visual-effects needed to make the lead actor's digital makeovers as realistic as possible, we won't be seeing THE IRISHMAN until 2019, so get ready for a long year of anticipation. Based upon Charles Brandt’s "I Heard You Paint Houses," THE IRISHMAN will chronicle the career of Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran, a mob hitman who was supposedly involved in the death of Jimmy Hoffa. The film boasts an embarrassingly excellent cast, in addition to Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci, THE IRISHMAN will also star Harvey Keitel, Bobby Cannavale, Ray Romano, Domenick Lombardozzi, Anna Paquin, Jack Huston, Jesse Plemons, and Stephen Graham. Can it be 2019 already?
