Last year around this time we brought you news that Marvel had set release dates for IRON MAN 2, CAPTAIN AMERICA, THOR and THE AVENGERS. A lot has changed since then (Matthew Vaughn was still attached to direct THOR back then) so Marvel has come back and updated some of their release dates. While IRON MAN 2 is sticking with Mar 7, 2010, THOR has been pushed back a full year to June 17, 2011. THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA has been pushed from May 6, 2011 to July 22, 2011, which gives us a THOR movie and a CAPTAIN AMERICA movie within just a few weeks. Finally THE AVENGERS, which will presumably star Robert Downey, Jr., Sam Jackson and Scarlett Johansson, was also pushed back a year to May 4, 2012.
In addition to all the AVENGERS-themed projects, Marvel also announced a release for another of their highly-anticipated movies: SPIDER-MAN 4. Sony and Marvel have officially announced a May 6, 2011 release. This comes on the heels of the news that Mickey Rourke was also offered a role as the next SPIDER-MAN bad guy so it looks like production is heating up on that end. All in all, it looks like a good couple years to be a comic fan.
