Marvel confirms Captain America 3 for May 2016 release!

JoBloJoBlo

After a record-breaking weekend at the box office with CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, Marvel has officially announced that CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 will open on May 6, 2016, which was the same date rumored by The Hollywood Reporter earlier last month. Now that the date is confirmed for the third solo Cap outing, the tables are set for the "man out of time" to square off with Zack Snyder's BATMAN VS SUPERMAN, which is also set for release on May 6, 2016. That's one hell of a game of "release date chicken" if you ask me.

The "untitled CAPTAIN AMERICA 3" will once again star Chris Evans as the titular character and it's believed the sequel will continue the storyline of The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) to some degree, while introducing some new villains (possibly "psychotic 1950's Cap") and likely returning ones (Frank Grillo as Crossbones, perhaps?) . Directors Anthony and Joe Russo, as well as screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are also returning to continue Cap's story, which will follow 2015's ANT-MAN, unless Marvel sneaks another one inbetween.

For Evans, this has got to be one hell of an exhausting stretch. Seeing him in his new Cap duds while filming for AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON on the weekend that CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER opens makes you feel like the guy never gets a break from the red, white, and blue. With Cap 3 so close on the horizon (and THE AVENGERS 3 still in the mix), the actor is probably feeling the pangs of superhero stardom, but it won't be too long before he can hang it up and get behind the camera instead of in front of it, as are his intentions. Correction to this: Apparently, we can quash those "retiring" rumors now, as Evans put them to bed last week.

You can catch CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER in theaters now. Cap returns next summer in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON on May 1, 2015, and will be back at it again the following summer with CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 on May 6, 2016.
