Marvel’s Black Panther bounds past Last Jedi with 2nd best 4-day opening

The numbers are in, and it would appear as if the force is stronger with Marvel's BLACK PANTHER than Rian Johnson's STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI!

I say this because earlier this morning, Disney announced that BLACK PANTHER is the second largest 4-day opener of all-time at the domestic box office with a total of $241.96 million earned! As a result of the film clawing in all that cash, the newest chapter of Disney's MCU ranks just after STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS ($288M) while defeating STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI ($241.6M) in a record-setting move.

It's also to note that while prowling into its Monday time slot, BLACK PANTHER stole the crown from STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS by earning $40.167M above the space saga's impressive $40.11M total. BLACK PANTHER is also being hailed as the second best Sunday earner ever at the domestic box office with $60.096M collected in just one day.

In Marvel's BLACK PANTHER T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman), the King of Wakanda, rises to the throne in the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda, but his claim is challenged by a vengeful outsider who was a childhood victim of T'Challa's father's mistake. Fighting alongside T'Challa for the good of people are his science-savvy sister, Shuri (Letitia Wright), and the Dora Milaje, a tribe of lethal female warriors who are ready and willing to fight for their beloved home.
