During Disney’s 2020 Investor Day, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced several new Marvel Cinematic Universe TV shows, including Armor Wars. The six-episode series would find Don Cheadle reprising his role of James Rhodes/War Machine, but it appears that the show is now headed to the big screen. THR has reported that Marvel Studios are now developing Armor Wars as a movie instead.

Sources told THR that Marvel “was committed in getting the story told the right way and in that process realized that a feature was better suited for the project.” Production on the Armor Wars series was looking to kick off sometime next year, but with the project transforming into a movie, it’s expected that the schedule will be pushed back. Yassir Lester (Black Monday) was serving as the head writer on the series and will remain onboard to pen the movie. No director has been signed yet. This isn’t the first time Marvel has done this, as Hawkeye was originally developed as a movie before they decided to turn it into a Disney+ series.

Don Cheadle has played James Rhodes since Iron Man 2 back in 2010 when he took over the role from Terrence Howard. Since then, he has gone on to appear in Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. He also appeared in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, What If…?, and will appear alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn in the upcoming Secret Invasion series. Speaking of Secret Invasion, it was stated during Marvel’s recent panel at the D23 Expo that Secret Invasion would lead directly into Armor Wars. It’s not clear if this change will affect that plan.

Do you think that turning Armor Wars into a movie is the right move?
