Marvel’s Phase Two movie details revealed at Comic Con (Now updated with title art!)

Yep, what you see there is a piece of production art for Marvel’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY which is now officially announced. Click to get a larger version of that awesome image!

Disney and Marvel unveiled the entire slate for Phase Two of their cinematic universe and we actually have some new details regarding the films and their titles. Looks like IRON MAN is the only franchise sticking with numerals.

IRON MAN 3 will be released on May 3, 2013 and Ben Kingsley was officially announced to be playing The Mandarin.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY will be hitting theaters on August 1, 2014. The team will consist of Groot, Drax, Rocket Racoon, Gamorra and Star Lord. Other members will be announced.

THOR 2 will now be known as THOR: THE DARK WORLD and will hit theaters November 8, 2013. Alan Taylor will direct the entire original cast. No word on who will be playing the villain now that Mads Mikkelsen has dropped out.

CAPTAIN AMERICA 2 is now CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER and hits theaters on April 4, 2014. This will obviously be following the significant Winter Soldier character from the comics, but who knows how that will play with the events of THE FIRST AVENGER.

Edgar Wright’s ANT-MAN test footage was shown but no official release was given. Maybe they are saving that for Phase Three. At least we now have official confirmation that ANT-MAN is coming!

Marvel certainly has their house in order. The level of organization needed to turn in multiple films that interconnect is one of the reasons it has taken this long for films like THE AVENGERS to hit theaters. I must commend Disney and Marvel for a job well done making fanboys everywhere happier than ever.
