Amazon MGM Studios has released 18 new character posters for Masters of the Universe, showcasing the heroes and villains of the upcoming big-screen adventure. Buckle up, folks.
It would have been all too easy for the film to take a grounded approach to the franchise and strip away the ridiculous and campy aspects of the animated series. Characters like Fisto or Mekaneck? I never expected they would be featured in a big-budget Masters of the Universe movie, but here we are.
What we’ve seen so far looks fun, and I can only hope the film is entertaining as well. Plus, we’ve got Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, which is worth the price of admission as far as I’m concerned.
The cast includes Nicholas Galitzine (Mary & George) as He-Man, Camila Mendes (Riverdale) as Teela, Idris Elba (Luthor) as Man-at-Arms, Alison Brie (Together) as Evil-Lyn, James Purefoy (Rome) as King Randor, Morena Baccarin (Deadpool) as the Sorceress, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson (Game of Thrones) as Fisto, Charlotte Riley (World Without End) as Queen Marlena, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (Game of Thrones) as Goat Man, Kristen Wiig (Wonder Woman 1984) as Roboto, Kojo Attah (The Beekeeper) as Tri-Klops, Sam C. Wilson (House of the Dragon) as Trap Jaw, and more. Oh, and Jared Leto (Tron: Ares) as Skeletor, but the studio has been keeping him under wraps during the press tour, for obvious reasons.
Masters of the Universe follows “ten-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword—the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe.” The film is set to hit theaters on June 5.
Are you looking forward to Masters of the Universe? Will it be able to top the original starring Dolph Lundgren?
