Masters of the Universe: Revolution: Melissa Benoist joins the cast as Teela, replaces Sarah Michelle Gellar

By the power of Greyskull! Fans are getting a new animated series of the Masters of the Universe franchise. This incarnation, titled Masters of the Universe: Revolution, will be a follow-up to Revelation, which was released on Netflix in 2021. The series is written by Kevin Smith and the cast includes Chris Wood as He-Man, voiceover and sci-fi legend Mark Hamill will be lending his pipes as Skeletor, William Shatner in an unannounced role, and according to The Wrap, Supergirl‘s Melissa Benoist will be replacing Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela. “I jumped at the opportunity to work alongside my friend, Kevin Smith and join the Revolution family as another bold and fearless heroine. I look forward to sharing the next evolution of Teela’s story with fans,” Benoist says.

The synopsis for Masters of the Universe: Revolution reads,
Revolution is an all-new story that focuses on the classic He-Man vs. Skeletor rivalry in a way audiences have never seen before. It’s technology up against magic as He-Man and the heroic warriors face the forces of Skeletor and a deadly threat to the Planet in the next epic chapter in the battle for Eternia.”

Fred Soulie, Senior VP and General Manager at Mattel Television, had this to say, “On the heels of our 40th anniversary, He-Man is more prevalent in pop culture than ever before, which is why we’re especially excited to bring the force that is Melissa Benoist into the fold. Melissa already exemplifies every aspect of Teela’s formidable personality, and we know that she will continue to showcase the same heart as she did in Supergirl, providing audiences with a new iteration of a classic character synonymous with strength and heroism.”

Benoist has collaborated with Smith before on Jay and Silent Bob Reboot and, most recently, Clerks III. She had also worked with Chris Wood previously on Supergirl. Wood would play the recurring character of Mon-El alongside Benoit. Masters of the Universe: Revolution is executive produced by Mattel’s Fred Soulie, Rob David and Christopher Keenan, as well as Smith and Ted Biaselli.

A release date has not yet been announced.
