According to Deadline, the Steven Knight script will be an adaptation of the Evan Thomas biography “His Life”, which Ross has been chomping at the bit to make for some time. The film “will trace RFK’s transformation from the younger brother in the shadow of President John F Kennedy to a strong national leader in his own right before he was gunned down in 1968.”
You might recall that in 2006, Emilio Estevez wrote and directed a large ensemble piece called BOBBY, which focused on the people in and around the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles on the day RFK was assassinated. That film got mixed reviews and made surprisingly little splash considering the cast (which included a veritable who’s who of actors). Will this new film fare better? With a lead like Damon, a popular and bankable star who’s still looking for that Oscar gold (and I promise this will be marketed that way unless it turns out to be terrible), I’m betting yes.
