So it’s been quite a while since we’ve heard anything about CLOVERFIELD 2, hasn’t it? To be exact we haven’t heard anything regarding the long-awaited project since March. That’s nearly a year ago!
Well luckily for us ShockTillYouDrop chatted it up with CLOVERFIELD director Matt Reeves recently while he was out promotiong LET ME IN’s DVD release and they got a chance to ask him about the proposed sequel. Scope out what he had to say:
“At the time, it was an idea that was fresh and exciting to make. I never shot a movie in that style before, but it was an incredible experience. We always thought there was more to explore, but we haven’t had the time to get together to discuss it. J.J. [Abrams] and Drew [Goddard] and myself need to get together and figure it out, then it will be the right time to do it.”
So it’s happening… But it isn’t happening. Does that even surprise you? This seems like one project that’s going to be talked about for years before it gets made, if it even gets made. Don’t forget Mr. Abrams is currently hard at work on the post-production of SUPER 8 and he’s sure to follow that with STAR TREK 2, so if CLOVERFIELD 2 is even in the cards we won’t be seeing it for quite a while.
That’s not all Reeves spilled though. The filmmaker also took the opportunity to throw out an update on another project he’s got lined up, THE INVISIBLE WOMAN. Now before you jump to conclusions this has nothing to do with the 1940s film of the same name. I’ll let Reeves explain it to you:
“Naomi Watts (below) was supposed to do it, but she had a conflict and fell out of the project. I’m still trying to get that made. It’s a very intimate character story, with a similar tone to Let Me In, a Hitchcockian suspense style. It’s an anatomy of this one woman’s desperation. You follow her through ever step of what seems like extreme behavior, but at the end you hopefully see why every step was made.”
So there you have it folks. There’s no telling what will be Reeves’ next project but it’s always nice to get an update on projects up in the air, even if it’s a small uneventful update like this.
