Matthew Vaughn feels obliged to make another Fantastic Four movie

Considering all of the blow-back that surrounded the release of Josh Trank's FANTASTIC FOUR, it's easy to forget that KINGSMAN helmer Matthew Vaughn was a producer on the failed superhero film. With that being said, Vaughn recently chatted with Corey Chichizola over at Cinemablend and stated the following with regard to one day giving Marvel's first family another go on the big screen:

"The other one I've felt an obligation to do is, I wouldn't mind maybe making a Fantastic Four film to apologize to everyone out there that maybe it didn't go very well for them. It's brilliant. One of my favorites is the Fantastic Four, so maybe one day I'll try and rectify the mistake."

I love that quote, particularly the part where Vaughn frames the idea of doing another FANTASTIC FOUR film as an apology to fans who were outraged by the cinematic shitshow that was Trank's version. If you don't recall some of the garbage that was swirling around that movie, allow me to refresh your memory. At one time or another, those working on the set of the film had claimed that Trank was showing up to the set in a noticeably "altered state" in addition to having altercations with both members of the cast and crew. In the wake of the film's abhorrent box office numbers, Trank tweeted (then deleted) statements about how the film was no longer his, and that the studio had meddled in the making of the film to the point where his vision was no longer recognizable.

Although Vaughn was simply musing on the idea, I'm positive that Marvel fans would welcome the notion of him taking on the property. Honestly, it's not that hard, you guys. Here, I'll lay it out nice and simple for you: LOST IN SPACE meets INDIANA JONES. The film begins with Franklin Richards (the son of Reed and Sue Richards) accidentally leaving the door to his pocket dimension open overnight. During that time, a whole world of evil and forgotten things are set loose upon the world. With no choice but to band together, the Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom must join forces in an effort to return Franklin's wildest nightmares to their rightful prison. Roll credits and then send me a check.

But enough about what I think. How do you feel about the idea of Matthew Vaughn spearheading yet another attempt at making a FANTASTIC FOUR film? Flights of fancy aside, I'd rather someone else take a stab at bringing my favorite superhero team to the silver screen, though Vaughn's desire to do right by the fans has me admiring the man's best of intentions. Personally, I'd love to see someone like Edgar Wright, Denis Villenueve or Taika Waititi have a go at finally giving the FF a proper chance at dominating the box office, though I'm not certain that there's enough confidence in the proprty to make a dream such as this come true.
