MaXXXine first image shows Mia Goth with Halsey

Production is well underway on MaXXXine, the sequel to director Ti West‘s films Pearl (watch it HERE) and X (watch that one at THIS LINK), with filming having started about three weeks ago. Now production / distribution company A24 has unveiled the first image from the film on social media, and you can check it out at the bottom of this article! The image shows franchise star Mia Goth alongside singer Halsey.

MaXXXine is being written and directed by West. Goth is reprising the role of X survivor Maxine Minx, a burlesque performer and adult film actress with the goal of being a star. The film will follow Maxine, after the events of X, as the sole survivor who continues her journey towards fame, setting out to make it as an actress in 1980s Los Angeles.

Goth and Halsey are joined in the cast by Kevin Bacon (Tremors), Elizabeth Debicki (Tenet), singer Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), Bobby Cannavale (Netflix’s The Watcher), Lily Collins (Emily in Paris), and Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad. The Hollywood Reporter noted that Esposito will be playing an agent for adult film and Z-list movie actors, Debicki’s character is a film director, Monaghan and Canavale are playing LAPD detectives, and Bacon is playing a private detective.

MaXXXine is being produced by A24, Ti West, Jacob Jaffke, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss. Goth serves as executive producer. Our friends at Bloody Disgusting reported that West had this to say about MaXXXine: “What I can tell you is that we’re going to catch up with Maxine. And we’re going to find out what she’s up to. The way that X is a movie that is informed by and affected by independent exploitation auteur Americana and 1970s cinema, and Pearl is perhaps affected by the Golden Age of Hollywood and the glitz and glamor of cinema, MaXXXine will be more about within the industry itself and the boom of VHS.” According to The Hollywood Reporter’s sources, the movie “will deal with the dangerous world of underground filmmaking.” Goth has said that MaXXXine has the best script of the trilogy.

Are you a fan of X and Pearl, and are you looking forward to MaXXXine? Let us know by leaving a comment below. I loved both of the previous movies, so I can’t wait to check this one out.
