I know! I know! You’re probably sick of hearing anything regarding the release date of MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN. I am too! I wouldn’t even be writing this article right now if it sounded like another delay or date shift. Listen to this:
According to studio insiders, Lionsgate IS still planning on releasing TRAIN on August 1st only it will be on a limited amount of theaters, like about 100. “Boo!” I says! It’s not enough that we get dicked around with release dates, now once a date seems to be set, we get a miniscule amount of theaters showing it! That hardly seems like a fair shake for a Clive Barker flick that has been getting some sweet word of mouth. Now it seems that the whole fiasco is just shaking down to a bunch of legal mumbo-jumbo. Look:
Apparently, the limited release move fulfills Lionsgate’s contractual obligation with production entity Lakeshore to give it some sort of theatrical run. Blah, blah, blah, more bullshit. Well, the only silver lining is that Lakeshore is planning is to subsequently release Meat Train quickly down the line for a DVD release.
So instead of watching a great horror flick on the big screen, we may have to settle for the smaller screen. Even though here is an effort to up the theater count on behalf of Lakeshore, I ain’t holding my breath. More on this as we hear if (if we and you can stand it).
