horror remake in the works. This week, it’s Peter Medak’s haunted house chiller THE
CHANGELING.
The boys over at CHUD got a scoop that The American Cinematheque
was having a retrospective for Peter Medak this past weekend, with a
screening of a brand new print for THE CHANGELING. Since Medak was at the
screening, a Q&A was held and it turns out Medak himself is set to
direct the remake.
Now, having the original director take charge of their own remake
worked for THE GRUDGE, so the thought of remaking THE CHANGELING with Medak
on board doesn’t sound so bad. Could be a whole hell of a lot worse,
that’s for sure.
It also sounds like he’s being selective when it comes to the final
script- as he’s already turned 3 scripts away, and is still waiting for
the right script to blow him away. He also went on to say that he hates
CGI, and will not use any of it in this film, claiming that scares are
more effective if you don’t actually see the spirit. I think anyone who
saw THE BOOGEYMAN will agree with that statement.
I’m not really into this remake craze, but if the original director is
on board, then I’m guessing the remake will do it some justice. Let’s
just hope he holds out for a really great script, and nixes the use of
CGI like he claims he will.
