Bruce Willis 90s films
After Die Hard came out in the late 80s, Bruce Willis, who was formerly known as the fast-talking, Blues-singing detective from Moonlighting, found a new career as an action star. The 90s were filled with Willis capitalizing on his new path. He had successes like the Die Hard sequels, The Fifth Element, Armageddon, Pulp Fiction and so on. But Willis also had a slew of underperformed, semi-forgettable action films that might be worth revisiting. Blu-ray.com is reporting that two of Willis’ lesser-talked-about 90s films — Mercury Rising and The Jackal — are now getting 4K releases.
Mercury Rising
Universal Pictures Home Entertainment is remastering the Bruce Willis and Alec Baldwin 1998 film, which is slated to be released in early 2027. The official description reads,
“Art Jeffries (Bruce Willis), a renegade FBI agent, combats ruthless federal agents to protect Simon, a nine-year-old autistic boy who has cracked the government’s new ‘unbreakable’ code. He can read MERCURY, the advanced encryption code, as easily as other kids read English. This skill renders the new billion-dollar secret code vulnerable, especially if enemies of the United States should learn of Simon’s abilities and capture him. Program chief Nick Kudrow (Alec Baldwin) orders the ‘security threat’ eliminated, but Kudrow hasn’t counted on Jeffries getting involved. As they are trailed by deadly assassins, Jeffries quickly realizes that no one can be trusted. Now time is running out, and he discovers his only hope of survival is using Simon’s special ability to bring their adversaries to justice.”

The Jackal
Universal Pictures Home Entertainment will also be remastering 1997’s The Jackal, which featured Willis as a villain and co-starring Richard Gere, for its 30th anniversary. It is also slated to hit retailers in early 2027. The official description reads,
“Bruce Willis, Richard Gere and Sidney Poitier star in the action thriller The Jackal. A ruthless assassin known as The Jackal (Bruce Willis) is hired to eliminate someone at the very top of the U.S. government. In order to track down this cold-blooded killer and prevent the hit, the FBI’s Deputy Director (Sidney Poitier) and a Russian intelligence officer (Diane Venora) enlist the aid of an imprisoned Irish terrorist (Richard Gere). These unlikely allies enter a global race against the clock to stop the mysterious mercenary before he can complete his deadly assignment.”
