Konami fans probably felt an exclamation point atop their heads today at the news that Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ Metal Gear Solid is finally moving towards a feature film adaptation. The long-running video game franchise has cast their Solid Snake and he will be played by none other than Oscar Isaac.

Isaac is already busier than most in Hollywood. Having recently wrapped his turn as Poe Dameron in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Isaac has been steadily working on projects on the big screen and small. He has also been named as the lead for Marvel Studios' Disney+ series Moon Knight.

The film is based on the Metal Gear Solid video game created by Hideo Kojima and published by Konami. Kojima is notorious for being one of the gaming industry's most enigmatic figures after launching the MGS franchise, the Strand game experience Death Stranding as well as the sought-after survival horror demo P.T. Sony's Metal Gear Solid is being written by Derek Connolly, with Avi Arad in charge of production. Meanwhile, Peter Kang will serve as an executive overseer on the long-gestating project.

The story for Metal Gear Solid is about as elaborate as story-driven action games get, but you focus down on Kojima's1987 original, the plot follows Snake, a soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize the terrorist threat from Foxhound, a renegade special forces unit. While speaking with IGN  in March of 2019, the outlet's Max Scoville asked Isaac which video game adaptation he'd like to be a part of, to which he eagerly replied, "Metal Gear Solid, that's the one. I'm throwing my hat in for that one." Enthusiasm aside, Isaac also recognized that video game adaptations are a risky business. "With the video game thing, I think the trick will be how do you replicate the feeling of what it feels like to play a video game. I think where it goes wrong often is with the plots," Isaac confessed at the time.

Metal Gear Solid has yet to receive a production start date but word has it that Sony is hoping the premise has franchise potential.

Snake? Snake? Snaaaake! Sorry, I couldn't resist.
