Metal Lords first images will have you throwing up your horns for Netflix’s latest comedy

Assume a power stance and raise your Goblet of Rock because the first images for Netflix‘s Metal Lords are here. Directed by Peter Sollett (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) and written by D.B. Weiss (Game of Thrones, The Three-Body Problem), Metal Lords is a coming-of-age comedy with facepaint, leather pants, and a whole lot of attitude.

Per Netflix, here is the official synopsis for Metal Lords to go along with the first images:

Two kids want to start a heavy metal band in a high school where exactly two kids care about heavy metal. Hunter (Adrian Greensmith) is a diehard metal fan who knows his history and shreds. His dream is to win the upcoming Battle of the Bands. He enlists his best friend Kevin (Jaeden Martell) to man the drums. But with schoolmates more interested in Bieber than Black Sabbath, finding a bassist is a struggle. Until Kevin overhears Emily (Isis Hainsworth) playing her cello. The motley crew must contend with school, parents, hormones, and teen angst while trying to get along long enough for Skullf*cker to win the Battle of the Bands.

Metal Lords also stars Joe Manganiello (True Blood, Magic Mike XXL), Brett Gelman (Stranger Things), Sufe Bradshaw (Veep, Murder Mystery), Katie O’Grady (Portlandia), and Michelle Mao (Surfside Girls), among others.

Produced by Greg Shapiro and D.B. Weiss, Metal Lords sounds like it could become a great companion to films like School of Rock and Detroit Rock City. We’ll have to wait for an official trailer before we can determine the overall tone of the film, but I like what I’ve heard so far. I’m always up for a movie that encourages young minds to explore their inner metalhead, and a film that features kids shredding like demons is long overdue. Raise your horns and let’s go!
