MGM prepares to have more fun when the gang reunites for Legally Blonde 3

MGM is getting ready to prove that believing in yourself never goes out of style, again, as they near a deal with Reese Witherspoon to reprise her role as the optimistic and effervescent Elle Woods in LEGALLY BLONDE 3. Adding a bit of sparkle to this announcement is the confirmation that the studio is looking to bring back much of the original creative team to help organize the quirky character's latest efforts toward making the world a better place.

According to Deadline, who exclusively broke the news on Monday, the project is coming together rather quickly. The entertainment outlet has also reported that Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah, who adapted the Amanda Brown novel for the 2001 first film, are in final talks to lend their talents to the new script. LEGALLY BLONDE producer Marc Platt and his Platt Productions president Adam Siegel are looking to produce alongside Witherspoon through her Hello Sunshine label. It's being said that the writing team will begin work on the sequel forthwith, with the aim of securing LEGALLY BLONDE director Robert Luketic for the new project.

It has been 17 years since the release of LEGALLY BLONDE (2001), and its sequel LEGALLY BLONDE: RED, WHITE & BLONDE (2003). Throughout the years, both films have been celebrated among young-female audiences as well as those looking for a witty, feel-good feminist adventure. In the time since LEGALLY BLONDE arrived on the scene, the premise has been converted into a stage musical that, in the past, has received mixed reviews. In fact, Ben Brantley of The New York Times said the show is a "high-energy, empty-calories, and expensive-looking hymn to the glories of girlishness." That's just one dude's opinion, though. I'm sure that there are plenty of other theater-goers who've enjoyed Elle's antics on the grand stage, and I guarantee that they'll bust out their best pink attire for the upcoming sequel.

No plot details concerning LEGALLY BLONDE 3 have been revealed at this time, though it's to be expected that the movie will mirror the spirit of the original series. Remember, you can never judge a book by its hair color, so be sure to keep an open mind for when Elle Woods makes her return to the big screen.
