There’s a helluva lot going on over at MiB headquarters, as various sites are reporting that the cast, which is already touting Josh Brolin, Emma Thompson and “Flight of the Conchords” star Jemaine Clement, is expanding – even as rumors swirl that production has been halted thanks to script problems…
Let’s get the mundane over with first: Bloody Disgusting is saying that Betty White has landed a role in MEN IN BLACK III as one of the character’s mother. I’m guessing it’s not Will Smith; more likely, it’ll be Tommy Lee Jones/Josh Brolin’s mom in the past (as much of the action takes place in the late 60s). I bet old Betty says some un-PC things; nothing more hilarious than a sassy old lady, right?!?!
In addition, Pajiba is reporting that Alec Baldwin, Gemma Arterton and Sharlto Copley are all negotiating to be in the 3D film. Arterton (pictured right) would play a secretary in the 1969 version of MIB; Baldwin would play the 1969 MIB boss; and Copley would play a fast-talking Yoda type alien. Meanwhile, “Pussycat Dolls” lead singer Nicole Sherzinger (pictured below) has also been offered a cameo as Jemaine Clement’s girlfriend.
I dunno, nothing very inspired here at all – however, I’m most curious about Copley, if it’s true.
Meanwhile, The NY Post reported yesterday a couple days ago that production on the film has been delayed two weeks because Will Smith and director Barry Sonnenfeld are at odds. Allegedly, there’s a dispute over the script, and Big Willy is well-known for putting his two cents in – and then some. Still, the flick is scheduled to begin shooting in New York in mid-November, and carries a MAY 25, 2012 release date.
The plot will center on Jay (Will Smith) as he’s sent back to 1969 in order to aid a 26 year old Kay (Brolin) in a battle to save the Earth against Yaz (Clement), who travels back in time to kill Kay and destroy the world.
