Michael Bay back on-board to direct the remake of Rosemary’s Baby?

Here’s a piece of news I’d kill to hear was April Fool’s Day japing!

Remember way back in 2008 when Michael Bay was purported to remake Roman Polanski’s exceptional 1968 chiller ROSEMARY’S BABY for Platinum Dunes? Remember how stoked we all were when the project was slapped with a toe-tag last summer? Well gang, with a heavy heart, I relay what could very well be a rumor. But since the word comes from the usually credible Roger Ebert, we’ll run with it: Michael Bay may have exhumed ROSEMARY’S BABY with plans to direct it himself!

Or to quote Ebert verbatim (via his Twitter feed), “Michael Bay is remaking “Rosemary’s Baby. O….kay….” Even perhaps the most recognizable film critic seems to have his qualms about the project, and this comes from a man who largely detests horror flicks (though he did award Polanski’s original with a 4-star rating, rightfully so!)

I’m not sure about you all, but if this report turns out to be accurate, it’s damn near the last straw! Bay and PD have already rehashed TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, THE HITCHER, THE AMITYVILLE HORROR, and now they’re going after ROSEMARY’S BABY? What’s next, THE SHINING? THE EXORCIST?

Adapted from Ira Levin’s novel by Polanski himself, the original ROSEMARY’S BABY revolves around Rosemary and Guy Woodhouse, who move into an apartment in a building with a bad reputation. They discover that their neighbors are a very friendly elderly couple named Roman and Minnie Castevet, and Guy begins to spend a lot of time with them. Strange things start to happen: a woman Rosemary meets in the washroom dies a mysterious death, Rosemary has strange dreams and hears strange noises and Guy becomes remote and distant. Then Rosemary falls pregnant and begins to suspect that her neighbors have special plans for her child.

Mia Farrow, John Cassavetes, Ruth Gordon and Ralph Bellamy starred.

Okay folks, let’s hear it. You lend any credence to this story? If so, what’s your initial reaction?

Katie Cassidy, star of Platinum Dunes’ latest horror remake, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET!
