Michael Bay-produced The Birds remake back on with new director

That remake of THE BIRDS you had hoped was dead and buried? It has risen once again.

Universal Pictures and Platinum Dunes have tapped Dutch helmer Diederik Van Rooijen to direct the remake of the Alfred Hitchcock masterpiece, according to Variety. While fairly unknown in the states, Van Rooijen has a long and healthy career working in the Netherlands, on both the big and small screen.

Platinum Dunes’ Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller are overseeing the project, along with Mandalay Pictures’ Peter Guber and David Zelon.

THE BIRDS has been trying to take flight for years; back in 2007, Naomi Watts and director Martin Campbell were attached to the project, but it ultimately fell apart. Then in 2009, LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT director Dennis Iliadis climbed aboard the film, but clearly that didn’t work out either.
