Michael Bay’s Monster Squad remake is dead says Platinum Dunes

With all those Platinum Dunes remakes going around these days, it was only a matter of time before one of them hit the bricks. For some reason they have been threatening a MONSTER SQUAD remake for a few years now; they had writers and a pre-existing story to make their job a whole lot easier. It wasn’t meant to be however; if you want to see a group of annoying kids take on Universal Monsters you’ll have to settle for the original.

In an interview with Collider, Platinum Dunes’ Brad Fuller and Andrew Form put a set the record straight about the project:

Andrew Form: The Monster Squad, we’re not developing anymore.
Brad Fuller: That’s dead.

Just like that, I love it. With all the talk of terrible remakes and sequels, it’s hard to keep track of what’s actually happening and what’s seems like a dare. This one was a bad idea; MONSTER SQUAD is one of Shane Black’s (IRON MAN 3, KISS KISS BANG BANG) first writing jobs and it was actually very well done. I’ve watched that movie a dozen times and still get a sense of nostalgia; a remake seemed a little off when Platnium Dunes got involved. Sure, remake it one day; just don’t make it to look like a music video.
