Michael Chernus brings the Tinkerer to Spider-Man: Homecoming

Michael Chernus has signed on to play The Tinkerer (a character addition revealed exclusively HERE at JoBlo) for SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING, giving Peter Parker another villain to contend with as he enters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Tom Holland only had to fight fellow superheroes during his maiden voyage as Spider-Man in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, but as he swings into his first solo film, it'll be Michael Keaton as the Vulture and now Chernus as Phineas Mason who will help him build his suit from recovered Chitauri tech from the initial AVENGERS climactic battle.

Chernus is best known for his role as Cal on Netflix's ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, but you may have also seen his work in films such as MEN IN BLACK 3, CAPTAIN PHILLIPS or THE BOURNE LEGACY.

There certainly is a focus on casting SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING much like the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with a focus on talent who can blend right into the fabric of what Marvel is building outward as opposed to towering over it, and Chernus is the type of character actor who fits right into that vision.

Plus, we can all agree it's nice for a SPIDER-MAN movie to not have to do anything with the Green Goblin or Oscorp for awhile.

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING swoops into theaters on July 7, 2017.
