Michael Shannon in talks to join Guillermo del Toro’s supernatural drama

Michael Shannon is fantastic in just about everything, there's something about him which keeps you transfixed on his performance from the very second he appears onscreen, so hearing about a new project which includes Shannon is always a good thing in my book. The Wrap reports that Michael Shannon is currently in talks to star in Guillermo del Toro's supernatural Cold War love story.

There's still not much concrete information about del Toro's new project, but the film is rumoured to be titled THE SHAPE OF WATER and is described as an other-worldly story set against the backdrop of Cold War-era America circa 1963. Michael Shannon's role is just as mysterious, but it's rumoured to be villainous in nature. The film also stars Sally Hawkins, Richard Jenkins, Octavia Spencer, and Michael Stuhlbarg. An unofficial synopsis for the film states that it is centers around Elisa (Sally Hawkins), a "mute janitor working at a lab where an amphibious man is being held captive. When Elisa falls in love with the creature, she devises a plan to help him escape with the assistance of her neighbor (Richard Jenkins). The world outside of the lab, however, may prove to be more dangerous for the amphibious man than Elisa could have anticipated." As with most things del Toro (and Shannon) I know I'll be checking this out regardless.

Michael Shannon can currently be seen in ELVIS & NIXON, BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, and Jeff Nichols' excellent MIDNIGHT SPECIAL, which our own JimmyO has given a rather glowing review.
