The Dark Knight and Thank You for Smoking actor Aaron Eckhart is preparing to take to the skies for Midair, an action thriller from Concourse and Bee Holder. Magnus Martens (BansheeSAS: Red Notice) directs from a script by George Mahaffey (Shadow ChasersChief of Station), with production scheduled for liftoff in July.

According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, Midair focuses on a cargo pilot who’s flown rogue missions for the CIA. While in the air, the pilot is stalked midair (get it) by a terrorist forcing him to navigate a series of life-threatening obstacles. To outsmart the terrorist and keep everyone alive, he must outmaneuver the threat and discover the truth about the attack.

“Aaron is a stellar leading man who posses all the qualities of this character; honor, focus and incredible loyalty. I look forward to bringing this heart pounding, exhilarating story to life for audiences around the globe,” said Martens.

Eckhart is thrilled to work alongside Holder and Concourse on Midair after teaming up for the upcoming spy thriller Chief of Station, which focuses on a CIA Station Chief who is forced back into the espionage underworld after the not-so-accidental death of his wife. The mission leads to new challenges, conspiracy, and destroying everything the agent thought he knew about the world.

“Working with Aaron on Chief of Station was simply a producer’s dream. He is focused like a laser, does his own stunts, noble like the lead character in Midair and he brings it every day from dusk till dawn…so thrilled to be working with him again,” said producer Steve Jones.

“The film is going to be pure adrenaline and action, with suspense that never lets up,” said Concurse Media CEO Matthew Shreder. “You’ve never seen a flight movie quite this this one, and Aaron could not be more perfect for the role. It’s an honor to be working with both Magnus and Aaron (again), and we look forward to presenting it to distributors this week in Berlin.”

After the success of Top Gun: Maverick, audiences will jump at the chance for more high-flying action and adventure. I don’t think the plane in Midair can move like an SR-71 Blackbird. Still, Eckhart outsmarting a terrorist is sure to sell tickets to audiences looking for a first-class ticket to thrills at the theater.
