Fangoria spoke with Mr. Patrick Melton, screenwriter of the FEAST films and the upcoming SAW V, about the movie he and his co-writer Marcus Dunstan are prepping right now: MIDNIGHT MAN, which Dunstan will direct. (Pictured are Dunstan, FEAST director John Gulager and Melton.)
The flick certainly sounds like it’s got one foot in the SAW-genre: Desperate to repay his debt to his ex-wife, an ex-con plots a heist at his new employer’s country home, unaware that a second criminal has also targeted the property, and rigged it with a series of deadly traps.
Don’t fret though, because Melton says this is going for something a bit new. “The whole ’70s exploitation revival is sort of at an end, so we don’t want to do that whole dirty, grainy style. Instead, we really want to capture a more contemporary tone without being too slick. I don’t want to tip our hand too much, but like the mask [of the titular character], we’re trying to offer a look that’s unique.”
Production will commence in Louisiana under Dimension Films’ watch in a few weeks, with FEAST and DRACULA 2000 make-up artist Gary Tunnicliffe splashing the blood around. For more on Fango’s interview with Melton, click it HERE.
