Mike Colter reflects on the cancellation of Luke Cage

Following closely after the cancellation of Iron Fist, Netflix gave Luke Cage the axe as well last October, bringing an end to the adventures of its titular hero played by Mike Colter. The actor spoke with ComicBook.com about the cancellation of the series and revealed that although it came as a surprise, he did notice a few red flags before the axe fell.

There were some things, some tell tale signs, that were not quite feeling right for me. Although we had an internal pick up, amongst a certain amount of people who were close to the project, and we were moving forward with the writing and writing the group writers room, et cetera. There was a lot of stalling. There was a lot of things that didn't feel quite right. Then, deadlines. One deadline would come and it would go. Another deadline would come, it would go. There were some things that started to feel a little odd. So, when it happened, I was like, 'Eh.' It wasn't that much of a shock. But yeah, still shock.

Mike Colter added that he doesn't believe there's anything the fans can do at this stage to revive the series, but is optimistic that Luke Cage will be back somewhere down the line. "I think it'll resolve itself, one way or the other. There just needs to be some time. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe that's it." Colter said. "I think, ultimately, if it comes back, it'll probably come back because of the fans demand for it. I don't think that their work is going in vain. It just may not happen as soon as they want it to." One possibility for Luke Cage's return (as well as the return of Iron Fist and Daredevil) lies in Disney's upcoming streaming service, but it's been said that Netflix's deal with Marvel regarding the original four Marvel TV shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist) includes a clause which prevents the characters from appearing in any non-Netflix series or film for at least two years after the cancellation of the series. If this is indeed the case, that would mean that we likely wouldn't get to see Daredevil, Luke Cage, or Iron Fist on Disney+ until 2020 at the earliest.
