The exploits of Winston Churchill‘s World War Two underground unit are about to come to life on the small screen. Based on Giles Milton’s non-fiction work Churchill’s Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: The Mavericks Who Plotted Hitler’s Defeat, the 10-episode adaptation hails from Castlevania: Nocturne creator Clive Bradley.
According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, Milton’s novel follows the work of an international group of soldiers, spies, and saboteurs from all walks of life who devised unconventional new weapons and tactics to “set Europe ablaze” per Churchill’s orders. From their base in the Scottish Highlands, these resistance forces from across Europe led daring yet largely unknown missions throughout Europe that hastened the end of World War Two.
Poised to roll cameras in Scotland, France, Norway, and Greece, Bradley’s project differs from that of Paramount’s forthcoming film Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which has Guy Ritchie lined up to write and direct. Ritchie’s project is based on an entirely different book by author Daniel Lewis.
“He brings a wealth of award-winning talent and is sure to breathe life into the extraordinary characters who stride through the pages of the book,” said former Discovery International CEO Mark Hollinger about Bradley.
Milton also expressed his excitement for Bradley’s participation by saying “I’m absolutely delighted that Clive Bradley and this team of talented producers will be developing The Ministry into a TV series. Clive brings a wealth of award-winning talent and is sure to breathe life into the extraordinary characters who stride through the pages of the book.”
In addition to working on the newly-announced Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare project, Bradley is hard at work on the Castlevania spin-off, Castlevania: Nocturne, which is set against the backdrop of the French Revolution.
