Oh, COVID-19, will your wonders ever cease? It is my sad duty to inform you that Mission: Impossible 7 will now open in theaters on July 14, 2023, rather than its original date of September 20, 2022. Meanwhile, Mission: Impossible 8 will now open on June 28, 2024. It had originally been set for a July 7, 2023 release.
“After thoughtful consideration, Paramount Pictures and Skydance have decided to postpone the release dates for Mission: Impossible 7 & 8 in response to delays due to the ongoing pandemic. The new release dates will be July 14, 2023, and June 28, 2024, respectively. We look forward to providing moviegoers with an unparalleled theatrical experience,” Paramount and Skydance said in a statement.
For the moment, Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick is still scheduled to take off in theaters on May 27, 2022. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed that this comes to pass, shall we?

“Mission: Impossible 7 and 8 delayed” is not a headline that anyone wants to be writing right now. While some theaters remain operational, many have been forced to shut down once again due to the pandemic. For a while, it looked like we were enjoying an upswing in the fight against COVID, but then the Omicron variant reared its head and mucked everything up. As a result, the worldwide box office and theater owners have suffered great losses since the pandemic began. Only when COVID is defeated can we truly recover and see major motion pictures released on time and without restrictions to seating and concession arrangements. Here’s hoping that this is the last time that we will have to write a headline like “Mission: Impossible 7 and 8 delayed.” I mean, something’s got to give eventually, right?
