Missy Elliott & Fall Out Boy remake Ghostbusters theme, soundtrack announced

I'm one of the last optimistic holdouts who feel like the GHOSTBUSTERS reboot won't be that bad, but today's soundtrack announcement is… Well, it's rough. I'm not gonna lie. The iconic Ray Parker, Jr. theme will be remade by (hold your breath) Fall Out Boy featuring Missy Elliott. Because it's 2005.

The other artists featured on the soundtrack (released by RCA records on July 15th) feature a similarly confounding mix of people we haven't talked about for years and decent but arbitrary Top 40 artists. Although the song titles haven't all been announced, we'll be seeing tracks from G-Eazy ft. Jeremih, 5 Seconds of Summer, Pentatonix, WALK THE MOON and Wolf Alice.

The first single has already been released, a fun but tonally mismatched country anthem called "Good Girls" from singer-songwriter Elle King. Check it out below!

The synopsis:

Dead criminals from all eras of New York’s underbelly past have returned to roost among the living in Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot. Pilgrims, old-timey sailors, Revolutionary War spirits, and even a couple of zoot-suited gangsters are ready to take on four formidable female busters looking to rid the city of its phantasmic filth.

The GHOSTBUSTERS reboot stars Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, joined by Chris Hemsworth, Neil Casey, Andy Garcia, Michael K. Williams, Matt Walsh, Pat Kiernan, Cecily Strong, and Charles Dance.

It will feature cameos from the original Ghostbusters as well as Annie Potts, Sigourney Weaver, and Ozzy Osbourne, not to mention Slimer and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

The new film will be in theatres on July 15th.
