Molina is a lodger

JoBloJoBlo

Modern audiences know Alfred Molina best as Dr. Octopus, the Professor Moriarty to Peter Parker’s Sherlock Holmes, in the much-lauded SPIDER-MAN 2. But to me, and I’m sure to many others, Molina’s most memorable role is Rahad Jackson, the coked-up lizard from BOOGIE NIGHTS. Molina’s got an extensive filmography, and has proved himself to be one of the more respected thespians working today. He’s just signed on to a project called THE LODGER, that sounds very intriguing.

The film is described as a modern-day ‘re-imagining’ of the Marie Belloc Lowndes novel of the same name, that also served as the inspiration for Alfred Hitchcock’s debut film, also called THE LODGER. The film will be written and directed by David Ondaatje, whose last film was almost ten years ago, something called WAITING FOR DR. MACGUFFIN. There’s two parallel stories, one featuring Molina as a hardened detective hunting down a serial killer, and the other about a disturbed landlady (the wonderful Hope Davis) who must contend with a mysterious “lodger”. I have no idea what to expect of this since I’m not familiar with Ondaatje’s work, but that plotline is as promising as they come to me. Shooting begins next month in LA.
