Awesome news all round, today. It has just been announced that Warner Bros have bought up THE CHASER, a Korean thriller, with William Monahan in talks to write the screenplay. Thank god for days like these, since we seem to be getting more Uwe Boll or BLONDE AND BLONDER stories lately, than we do stories like this. Monahan is my god damn hero, so the fact that THE CHASER has a bad ass sounding plot is merely a sweetener. That bad ass plot revolves around an ex-cop who goes on a warpath trying to find a missing girl that is being used by a serial killer to taunt the police. And if MAN ON FIRE taught me anything it is that angry people on warpaths looking for little girls makes for good cinema. That and that for some reason in Mexico ex-spec ops people who look like Christopher Walken live like Justin Timberlake.
Leonardo DiCaprio is apparently also circling the project, since today God seems to be in a giving mood. If things continue in this vein, look for it to be announced later in the day that Scarlett Johansson has signed up to film scenes for a DVD suppliment to The Complete Idiot’s Guide To Nipple Rubbing. THE CHASER, from director Na Hong-jin, has been a hit in Korea, grossing more than $20 million in little over 20 days.
