Monster boar flick Chaw will finally be unleashed upon the states

It’s been far too long since we’ve heard anything regarding CHAW, the giant-pig-on-the-loose-in-Korea flick from director Jeong-won Shin. A few images and a trailer popped up last year, but it’s been nothing but tumbleweeds on the release front, at least in North America. Thank goodness for the news Variety brings us, then!

According to the trade, CHAW has been gobbled up by Magnolia Pictures, which will release the monster movie via its genre arm Magnet. (Which brought us flicks like SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD and LET THE RIGHT ONE IN in the past, and will be dishing out MONSTERS next month.) Though it hasn’t been given a specific release date yet, it will evidently be going under the title CHAWZ when it runs amok on our shores.

Shock and fear wash over the quiet, peaceful town of Sameri when ecologist (Soo Ryeon) discovers the body parts of a girl in the mountains. Officer Kim Kang Su (Uhm Tae Woong), newly transferred from Seoul, gets assigned to the case, but it soon transpires this is no ordinary homicide. Cheon Il Man (Jang Hang Seon), the victim’s grandfather, is convinced that the culprit is a giant man-eating boar, and more will be claimed if the beast isn’t taken down. Kim’s own mother has gone missing, and may have already fallen victim. All interested in capturing the boar for reasons of their own, Kim, Cheon, Soo Ryeon, opportunistic hunter Baek (Yoon Je Moon), and detective Shin (Park Hyuk Kwon) head into the dangerous wilds, but will they make it back out alive?

Once this bad boy gets an official release date, we’ll let you know! For now, feast upon a 5-minute-long trailer below.
