Here’s a story I don’t know what to make of. It sounds kinda terrible at first, but for whatever reason, I’m intrigued. Maybe it’s the mysterious nature of it…
Variety reports that Universal Pictures and toy manufacturer Mattel are teaming up to bring a live-action “monster musical” to the big screen. The flick will be the brain child of producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (CHICAGO) and Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, composers of HAIRSPRAY.
The rub is, the identity of the Mattel toy in question has not been divulged; in fact, it apparently hasn’t even been launched yet. Obviously, it’s something “family friendly” and all Mattel will say is it will”add a fresh twist to monster lore.”
I’m not too fond of musicals (no, not even ROCKY HORROR), but I guess if I have to see one, it should be one with monsters in it. And lesbians. And at least one scene featuring a brutal, drunken brawl. You know, all the things that make life worth living.
