Monsters moved up

Ah memories… One of the very first stories I wrote for Arrow in the Head was for a weird little picture called MONSTERS VS. ALIENS! Well, actually, it’s not so little – it’s an animated film from Dreamworks, the peeps who made SHREK, so I’m sure the budget is nine-figures… But the crafty combination of the terrific title and that wondrous picture of the whatever-it-is smashing the Golden Gate bridge had me sold as soon as I read about it.

In that first article, I mentioned it was being made with revolutionary digital 3-D technology – the same being utilized for flicks like James Cameron’s AVATAR. So it’s with irony that MONSTERS VS. ALIENS is scuttling away from its release date because of AVATAR’s presence, as it understandably wants to avoid getting trounced by the sure-fire mega-smash, which owns a release date of May 22, 2009.

MONSTERS held a May 15 date, but pushed itself up to March 27 – a wise and probably profitable move, as late March is always a solid time of year for kid-flicks… Don’t get me wrong though, this kid-flick has “me sitting in the theater opening day” written all over it. I’d be a traitor to my own nature if I turned down a 3-D movie that promised a monster/alien ass-kicking party.
