Moon Knight: Oscar Isaac says there are reasons for his character’s accent

When the very first trailer for Moon Knight was released, some took issue with what they felt was Oscar Isaac’s rather unconvincing British accent. It is rather odd and the actor even commented on the accent during a trailer reaction video with his Moon Knight co-star Ethan Hawke.

While speaking in the Moon Knight issue of Empire, Oscar Isaac teased that there are reasons for his choice of accent.

I stand by the sound of Steven 100 per cent. It’s cool [the accent] got people excited, and some were like, ‘That sucks!’ and others were like, ‘That’s great!’ But there are reasons… That voice is about where Steven’s from, where he’s living now, and some of his believed heritage. It’s not an idea of what Brits actually sound like.

It turns out that taking on various accents for Moon Knight’s personas was all Oscar Isaac’s idea. “In the initial script, the difference between Steven and Marc was in attitude,Moon Knight writer Jeremy Slater said. “It was Oscar who said, ‘What about an accent?’” In addition to Oscar Isaac, Moon Knight also stars Ethan Hawke, Lucy Thackeray, May Calamawy, and the late Gaspard Ulliel. We recently saw the release of a Moon Knight trailer at the Super Bowl, which should help keep us satisfied until the series premieres next month.

The official synopsis for Moon Knight:
