Morbius and Blade in a Spider-Man sequel? Not likely, but possible

We can probably safely file this under "Things That Will Never Happen", but sometimes it's fun to daydream about remote possibilities.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently told us he thinks it would be fun to bring Marvel's vampire killer character Blade into the Marvel Cinematic Universe someday. While speaking with We Got This Covered, SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING director Jon Watts – who worked his way up to directing this weekend's Marvel/Sony release by making the Eli Roth-produced horror film CLOWN and the Kevin Bacon thriller COP CAR – seemed quite open to the idea of that "someday" coming along in the HOMECOMING sequel, which is already scheduled for a July 5, 2019 release.

The idea is that the next SPIDER-MAN film will feature a villain who has never been in any of the movies before, which would count out Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Venom, Sandman, The Lizard, Electro, and Rhino. HOMECOMING is already claiming The Vulture, Tinkerer, Shocker, and Scorpion, so the options are getting whittled down a bit.

Among the villains who haven't made it to the screen yet, one of the possibilities is Morbius, the Living Vampire, a biochemist whose attempt to cure himself of a blood disease accidentally caused him to be inflicted with pseudo-vampirism, a condition that gives him all the powers and weaknesses of a vampire – including the need to drink blood – but with a scientific explanation rather than a supernatural one.

When We Got This Covered brought up the idea of Morbius being in the HOMECOMING sequel, they got an enthusiastic reaction from Watts, who then suggested that if you have a vampire in a film you could include a vampire hunter as well. Watts said:

Morbius is kind of cool! … The tone of the character is pretty dark, but the vampire/Marvel Universe thing is pretty cool. Maybe we could get Blade to show up, too? That'd be neat."

That certainly would be neat, it just seems extremely unlikely. I wouldn't expect to see Morbius or Blade in the 2019 SPIDER-MAN film, but until we hear who the movie's villain is we can imagine what it would be like if the Living Vampire and the vampire killer were to share the screen with the friendly neighborhood web-slinger in two years.
